The Eco-Tourism-Sticker (ETS)

A sticker given by the multilateral European Grundtvig Project Group ETS after a serious examination of touristic institutions, like hotels, transport- and touristic-leisure-companies, using the following criteria:

  • Energy (total consumption, renewable energy)

  • Water (efficiency, low consumption, usage of rain-water, natural cleaning system)

  • Waste (lower the outcome of waste, recycling, reuse, reduce)

  • Transport (reduce CO2-emission by cycling, walking, using public transport)

  • Ideas (open for new ideas, promoting green tourism, working sustainable)

The partnership is established for the purpose of sharing of know-how by saving the nature and introduction into ecotourism activities. The main aim is to share experience with the identification of personal and professional potential of ecology and tourism and their training, taking advantage of information and communication technologies. The project will contribute to a higher quality of tourism-services provided by the institutions in the partnership.
We will install the "Eco-Tourism-Sticker-website", which is a website of the project ( www.eco-tourism-sticker.eu ), on which the process of the project, the meetings and the material for the project is to be shown and disseminated for everybody.
At the end of the project the best practice of ecotourism will be collected and summarized in a booklet (multilanguage tourist guide with map), posters and stickers.

When the project idea was presented by the coordinator Anamur Public Centre from Turkey on the net through different partnership search sites, all partners found the idea impressive. They searched and brainstormed about the topic as common interest, and they declared that they need to exchange experiences on good practices by a two year multicultural exchange.

The project is necessary to all participating institutions because they all want to explore the cultural resources of their region while offering a new chance to save the environment and to host and welcome visitors and tourists in their home town. The organizations will develop their European profile, while exchanging know-how on practices they already have developed in ecology with tourism. That theme is very important to raise the quality of learning how to care nature. As well, rigorous "The Eco-Tourism-Sticker (ETS)" lies at the heart of well managed and effective adult education improvement. It is based on evidence the effectiveness of leadership and management.

The Eco-Tourism-Sticker (ETS) examination for touristic institutions should
1. provide a clear and antibureaucratic framework for saving nature,
2. lead to a rigorous and objective diagnosis of ecological need,
3. lead to effective action planning to build on humanity strengths and remedy existing weaknesses.

Our definition of "The Eco-Tourism-Sticker (ETS)" at an institution as a basis for this project:

  • It is an examination that is voluntary, self-planned and self-executed by the institution with the objective of preserving and developing quality of nature awareness.
  • All the data belong to the institution, which is the big difference to an external examination.
  • "The Eco-Tourism-Sticker (ETS)" means that the responsibility of the systematical figuration, accomplishment and examination is the responsibility of the individual institution.
  • That is also a tool to measure the ecological intensity, in which a touristic institution is working.

The main concrete objectives and the main outcomes of this project are:

  • to install and complete the website ( http://www.eco-tourism-sticker.eu/ ),
  • to research about the main ecological elements and how to live sustainable in general,
  • to examine examples of touristic institutions in each country reflecting the main ecological elements,
  • to present an ECO-TOURISM-STICKER to these institutions, which work sustainable,
  • to produce teaching material for to use all of the participants to learn about ecological tourism.

The general objectives are:
- to improve partnership in a team work,
- to improve connection with using ICT,
- to improve process of saving nature,
- to improve possibility of education for better touristic activities.

Main topics of partnership:
- environmental education for adults
- tourism attractions
- using ICT in personal management

The outcome of the project and the results are described by each of the participating institutions.

  1. A booklet for citizens to understand the importance of ecology in each country by their own language and in English.
  2. Poster which represents nature and tourism in good partnership without destroying either.
  3. Multilingual tourist guide with map will demonstrate the main topic of the project and shows example of ecological-touristic-institutions.
  4. An article for some local journals will describe the project and the results.
  5. The website of the project "www.eco-tourism-sticker.eu", on which the process of the project, the meetings and the material for the project is to be installed and completed.

Topics of partnership will be discussed and evaluated on common meetings. Topics are chosen to fulfil goals of the project. We are expecting active involvement of all partners in common partnership activities and meetings.
